Jenny Sinclair Performs in Abbey Court Special Needs School for their Annual Prom and Holy Trinity Primary School for their Disability Awareness Week
As well as singing and entertaining in care homes, nursing homes and residential homes Jenny also gets special requests for other types of events. These include performances in schools and special Needs Schools.
As a mother to Mickey who has Special Needs Jenny was asked to sing at an end of year Prom for Abbey Court Special Needs School and to do a performance and talk to 300 pupils aged between 6 and 11 all about her son Mickey for Holy Trinity Infants Schools "Disability Awareness week". This event was made extra special as Jenny's son Mickey was invited to the event to meet the children and to dance with them while Jenny was singing so the children could get to know and understand Mickey. The event began by Jenny telling the children about what life is like for Mickey and then there was a question and answer session for the children in which highly intelligent and surprising questions were raised which was a real spotlight to the event. This gave the children greater awareness of people like Mickey and to help teach them that they are no different from you or I. And that they love to make friends, socialize and do many things that they also enjoy doing in their own special way, i.e swimming, bowling, horse riding etc... The highlight of the event was when Mickey got to dance with many of the children at the end when Jenny did her singing performance. It was a magical and exciting fun time for all in the school hall and Mickeys beautiful soul filled the room and touched both the teachers and childrens hearts. This event proved to be incredibly successful so much so that it was suggested to Jenny to promote this in other schools as the children gained so much knowledge about Mickey and disability awareness in that one hour. |
Testimonials from staff at Holy Trinity Primary School for their Disability Awareness Week
"What a fantastic morning we had on Monday. Jenny, Mike and their amazing son Mickey visited our school to talk about Mickey and his condition and what that means. Jenny explained about Mickey's condition in a very child-friendly way so that the children understood that Mickey is a human being like everybody else, but part of his brain is not working as well as it should be. The pupils were able to ask Jenny lots of questions which she answered honestly and by the end of the Q&A session everybody had a far greater insight into Cerebral Palsy and how Mickey and his family live their lives, making the most of the things Mickey can do and the things he enjoys.
Jenny has the most fabulous singing voice, and we were treated to some fantastic songs. While she sang, Mickey danced because that is what he loves to do, and so many of our pupils also joined in the party! You could see by Mickey's smiling face that he enjoyed every minute, as did our pupils, and the experience was very moving and extremely touching.
Mickey showed himself to be a truly special and loving boy, and the love Jenny and Mike have for him was clear to see. We all felt blessed to have spent time getting to know this amazing family whilst gaining such valuable understanding about Cerebral Palsy." - Staff at Holy Trinity School

"Everyone was blown away by what happened this morning……………..I cannot put it into words. It was so emotional. The way you spoke about Mickey and his condition was simply amazing. So informative and honest, but at the same time so matter of fact and the way you engaged the children was spot on!
Jenny, your voice is beautiful. We could have listened to you for hours and hours. How you sang Mickey's song is beyond me!
What an incredible young man Mickey is! He stole our hearts with that smile! How one person can fill a room with so much love and happiness just by smiling and dancing has to be seen to be believed!" - Staff at Holy Trinity School

3rd Testimonial from Staff at Holy Trinity School for their Disability Awareness Week.
It was a wonderful day for the children and teachers when Jenny and Mickey came to visit the school. Jenny was a very warm, friendly person who engaged the children and interacted brilliantly with them. She touched our hearts. Mickey was a real star and danced with the children and made everyone happy. It was a fantastic morning which taught us to celebrate our similarities not judge our differences. We hope to welcome them back to the school again soon.
You should be proud. Mickey is amazing and it just goes to show that you don't always need words!

4th Testimonial from Staff at Holy Trinity School for their Disability Awareness Week.
Mickey visited our school during disability awareness week. He came along with his parents and during an assembly his wonder mum, Jenny, spoke to our children about Mickey’s condition. Jenny's explanations of how Mickey has adapted and responds to everyday situations was done in such a sincere and child friendly manner that all our children were absorbed in the assembly and gained a clear understanding of cerebral palsy.
Mickey was then offered to dance whilst Jenny sung, as this one of his favourite things to do - Jenny's voice is amazing! Our children were overwhelmed at seeing a little boy, with needs so different to theirs, expressing such happiness. I had the privilege to have a personal dance with Mickey and the joy in his eyes gleamed straight into my heart. He was clearly so happy and at ease with our children. Many came up onto the stage to share in the experience with Mickey. Our children were holding hands with Mickey, swinging around to the beats with him and they too expressed such joy and happiness with Mickey.
I feel that the experience touched the whole school that day and has helped our children, and staff, to open our eyes and see that having cerebral palsy still means you can have a full and happy life. Mickey's parents have done such a wonderful job with supporting his needs and what they are now doing to raise the awareness of his condition is a marvel. Our children will surely remember and value this experience for the rest of their lives.

Testimonial From FE Teacher Becky
"We invited Jenny into our School to sing for the students in their end of year summer prom. The students are aged between 11 - 19 and all have severe learning disabilities. The performance was brilliant and pitched at the perfect level for all of the students. The students responses to the live singing was amazing, they were animated, danced and joined in with the singing. This was a wonderful opportunity for all the students and a great way to celebrate and end another year with our very special pupils. Many many thanks, Becky"
